My Personal Story

I was told by my high-school principal and some teachers that...

"YOU WILL NEVER GRADUATE HIGH-SCHOOL".

A terrible thing to say to a student. And yet, I  now have:

 - B.A. Psychology (Honours)

- Post Grad Marketing Management (Sheridan A/A+ student)

- Post Grad Educational Support (Sheridan - A+ student)

They didn't have empathy

They didn’t lean in, ask questions, or try to see things from my perspective. They certainly didn’t have empathy for me. I simply was having an issue processing the information, in how it was being delivered in class. Unfortunatly because I was having an issue processing the information, I was also having a problem expressing it. And, my grades suffered greatly.

I found out many years later that I had ADD. I simply needed to learn the material in a different way.

However, as a high-school student, I didn’t know. I just felt different. My self-esteem was impacted.

The happy story is that not only did I graduate high-school, but I earned a B.A. in Psychology - Honours (concentrating on child development), I did a Post-Grad in Marketing Management and graduated at the top of my class, and after working 10 years in the industry, I completed my Post Grad in Educational Support (A+ student).

From this story, I would like to express that I am passionate about education, and every student should have the opportunity to reach their capabilities, and the goals they want to achieve. I would like other students to know that no one has the right to take away our spark. We learn and express ourselves in different ways. As an Educational Assistant, my goal is to pay attention, listen, inspire, and help students have the opportunity to grow and progress.
