What is Educational Technology?

  • It is  a system in which machines, materials, media, people and methods are integrated and organised to work together for a specific educational objective.

  • It uses the principles of universal design for learning (UDL)

  • It engages students through a variety of modalities (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, tactile)

  • Designed with guidance from educators,psychologists, curriculum, or subject area experts.

  • Often games – puts learning process in the hands of students. Always tied to curriculum goals.

Why Should Educators use it?

  • Can increase engagement

  • Help students prepare for future careers

  • Allows for enhanced collaboration

  • Helps develop digital citizenship skills – how to keep kids safe online.

What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

  • UDL acknowledges that there is great variation in how students learn best. There are two main premises of UDL:

  1. Learning should be designed to be accessible to everyone

  2. Information should be conveyed in a variety of ways, allowing for multiple means of: Engagement, Representation, and Expression.
