What I learned about myself on placement this term,
and how this has shaped my attitudes and beliefs.
I learned that I really care about students. I knew that I did, but I didn’t realise that I would take those caring thoughts home with me. I care about how the students are progressing, their feelings, their needs, and resources that I wish they could have.
I also learned that I will always care, but I also need to remember to self-care. I need to take care of myself, so that I can better help students. I started to implement mindful watching of funny shows, and movies. And at nighttime before I go to sleep, I state some things I am grateful for, and have a quiet meditation.
I learned that as much as I have gained knowledge from the program, classes, instructors, and classmates, the learning in the field is equally essential. It is so imperative to see how things work in schools, and the system itself. I learned that I have so much information in my head, but to be able to apply that information in the “real” world is so important to better understanding.
